7 Essentials for Traveling with Companion Dogs

This is a guest post by Wendy from the blog, Totally Goldens.

Whether you are going for a weekend’s trip or a week’s travel leaving your furry companion to a pet sitter is always saddening. Look at those puppy eyes staring at you while you leave. Don’t you think it is a heart breaking moment while you should leave for your holidays happily? Leaving your companion dog behind occupies space in your mind to avoid unwanted stress while traveling I would suggest you to take your pup with you for having more fun. However taking your Fido along you requires a little more effort for planning and packing. To make sure that your companion dog stays happy, healthy and safe here are some basic dog essentials for traveler dogs.

 Tags

While roaming around new places and streets that are unknown to you as well as for him you two might get de-attached.  To counter such situation always attach a tag to your dog’s harness every time you go out. The tag should contain your name and current contact number so that you if your Fido gets lost someone can help you find him.

Vaccination

The first thing that you must keep with yourself is your dog’s medical certificates. If you are traveling to some other country you may require these vaccination records to meet the requirements of the company you are traveling to. In addition to this while traveling your pup can caught sickness and you may require the records if you visit a vet.

First Aid Kit

The second thing that you must consider keeping for your dog while traveling is your dog’s first aid kit because emergencies can arrive anytime and you must be prepared to encounter them. You must keep at least gauze, non-stick bandages, adhesive tape and antibacterial wipes. You can take hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting if he eats something toxic. Other than this keep a scissors, tweezers, magnifying glass, digital thermometer, disposable gloves and magnifying glass in your pup’s first aid kit.

Food

Always keep your dog’s favorite food as much as you can or a little bit extra too. I am suggesting this because if your dog food ends before time you may find difficulty to find food of same brand. Secondly you dog can make it difficult for you to feed him on some other food. In addition to this trying new food can disturb your furry companion’s digestion issues. Keeping food in abundance will help you and your puppy to enjoy your vocations without any fuzz.

Flea Controller

Traveling to new places may cause your pet get parasites that will make his and your life miserable. The medicated collar can help to avoid parasites. However giving your dog with a good flea shampoo will help you to remove flea if he catches any. So, make it a part of his first aid kid.

Toys-Fun Stuff

Dogs and other pets usually get conscious while traveling to new places. To keep them busy and reduce their anxiety always brings their known toys from home with them. The known smell of the toys helps them to calm themselves. However chew toys are the most helpful in this process because when dogs are anxious they usually try to chew thing to counter their anxiety.

Pet Carrier

If your dog likes roaming around the car or plane you must find a suitable carrier for your little mate. Do not go for a smaller one because it will stress out your pup. Keeping a carrier with you will not only help to carry him easily but it will save you space in your car. When you let him sit in the carriers always line it with dry fur and plastic sheets.

Hope the above mention tips will help you on your next travel with your puppy.
