We hopped in our car and took a little road trip to Pittsboro, NC to spend the day at Fearrington Village.
Did I just hear you ask, “A village in North Carolina?” Yes!
Location
Just 10 miles away from the charming town of Chapel Hill, Fearrington Village offers a quiet getaway from the big city.
If you’re coming from the state’s capitol city of Raleigh, you can get to Pittsboro in 45 minutes depending on traffic.
The Farm
Your kids will love this.
There are Belted Galloways (Belties) on the farm’s pastures. The breed originates from Scotland and they are a must-see!
Tristan was also fascinated by the goats who were the cutest we’ve ever seen!
The Granary
We had lunch at one of Fearrington Village’s restaurants, The Granary. It was a deliciously casual affair!
For starters, we ordered Salt and Pepper Calamari, Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Chicken Wings.
The dipping sauce for the calamari was addictive and I am not ashamed to say that I ate majority of the plate (sorry Meshach and Tristan!)
They did however eat all of the wings before I could get to it.
If you’ve never had a good relationship with Brussels sprouts then you need to try these, it might change your opinion.
I ordered Beer Battered Fish & Chips, that came with peas, coleslaw and tartar sauce. It was so good, especially the peas!
Meshach ordered the Crispy Pork Schnitzel Sandwich and Tristan opted for their Bacon Cheeseburger.
Two words: Onion Jam. You need to try it, it’s a life changer for your burger! By the way, Tristan gave it “two thumbs up!”
For dessert I tried the Coconut Cake and the boys ordered Strawberry Cheesecake.
If you order the Coconut Cake, you can easily share it with another person – the slice is huge.
Did I mention that I ate the entire slice by myself? It was delicious!
McIntyre’s Books
After lunch we explored the village bookstore which was probably Tristan’s most favorite spot.
Why? Because of the Children’s Book Room of course!
I think we spent at least an hour in that room. He was so excited to see all of the toys and books.
I bet it was like walking into a candy store for him.
Fearrington Village
Besides The Granary, there are three other places to dine. The Goat, Roast Beer Garden and Fearrington House Restaurant.
It’s AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five-Star restaurant serving farm to table meals at its finest.
You can also do some shopping at one of their onsite boutique stores or book a visit to their spa for some relaxation.
There are paths around the village that are perfect for a relaxing stroll.
We enjoyed the beautiful English garden inspired landscape. It really did feel like we were visiting a quaint English village.
The village also offers 32 luxury guest rooms at The Fearrington House Inn if you want to stay overnight.
We were visiting for the day so we did not stay in one of their rooms, but if we ever do we will definitely tell you about it!
