A Holiday Feast at Fairview Dining Room

Before we embarked on our 2 weeks adventure, we returned to Washington Duke Inn for a delightful holiday feast.

No matter where you go in the world, food seems to be the universal way of bringing people together. Don’t you agree?

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

We love Washington Duke Inn, especially this time of year when Tristan gets to see all of the lights and decorations. He’s so fascinated with Christmas trees!

The elves we saw last year also made an appearance again this year. Tristan was excited about that too! Aren’t they the cutest?

After touring the decorations around the grounds, we worked up an appetite at a perfect time.

A Holiday Feast

We love seafood so ordering shrimp cocktail as an appetizer was a no brainer. My mother-in law who was visiting us from out of town, opted for the shrimp, corn and bacon chowder.

After polishing off each sweet and tangy shrimp, we were graciously greeted with delicious bowls of roasted North Carolina sweet potato soup!

I’ve never eaten sweet potato soup before and wow, I was missing out! It was the right consistency – not too sweet, just enough to prepare our palette for the main event.

Soon enough our mouthwatering entrees arrived.

I must say, the wine we chose (Bodegas LAN Rioja Reserva) paired really well with our steak dinners.

Meshach and my mother-in-law ordered the 12oz Angus NY Strip steak with a side of crab cake. Tristan wanted a bacon cheeseburger and I chose the 8oz Black Angus filet. The filet was one of the juiciest steaks I had ever eaten.

It was so tender, I hardly needed a knife because my fork went through it like butter.

Dessert

You can’t end a meal at AAA Four Diamond, Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star rated restaurant, Fairview Dining Room without dessert and coffee.

For the kid in you, order S’mores Chiboust – a grown up twist to this campfire classic. I can’t say no to s’mores!

Whichever dessert you choose, it’ll be delicious and don’t forget coffee (or cappuccino in our case.)

Thank you to Washington Duke Inn for hosting us, as always opinions are our own.

I absolutely dread winter. It’s my least favorite season, however…
