Montreal’s Best Kept Secret: The Gryphon D’or Tea Room

Girl outside tea room window

When planning our visit to Montreal I stumbled across some tea rooms that were recommended by people on Trip Advisor. I added to the list (which in our opinion as tourists), Montreal’s best kept secret place to eat: The Gryphon d’Or Tea Room.

Tourists will often dine in neighborhoods like downtown Montreal and Old Montreal and I’m not going to lie, we had a few meals in those neighborhoods. But for a delicious and affordable meal, we got off the beaten path and visited The Gryphon d’Or Tea Room.

This tea room is located in Monkland Village, a suburban neighborhood away from all of the tourist traps.

It took us a while to find it once we got off one of the bus stops in Monkland Village. I think we may have stopped at the wrong bus stop because we walked for at least 10 to 15 minutes before we arrived.

However, the steps were worth it because this eatery of comfort food goodness was the best meal we had in Montreal!

You can have a full afternoon tea experience complete with homemade scones, assorted sweet creams, sauces, and three tiered tea tray with a variety of finger sandwiches and desserts.

We were there for lunch but they also serve dinner. You can choose from their special of the day or check out their menu for more homemade dishes. We opted for one of the specials.

I ordered a burger and instead of regular buns, they used a scone – best idea ever! Meshach got the BBQ Pork plate which he devoured in minutes! The meals also came with scones, dessert and tea for no additional cost.

Once you’ve polished off your plate, sit back and relax with a fresh cup of tea included with every meal.

Don’t be shy about getting another cup – refills are free! If breakfast is what you really want, The Gryphon d’Or Tea Room is open for brunch on weekends.

The Gryphon d’Or Tea Room is one of Montreal’s best kept dining secret. Whether you are a local or tourist, you have to check it out.

Also, the name is so cool and reminds me of Harry Potter (which we are longtime fans!)
