We spent a long weekend in Myrtle Beach and were able to check a few things off our Myrtle Beach bucket list! We wanted to visit as many sites as we could in a weekend without feeling overwhelmed in a short amount of time. This post is about where we went.
Medieval Times
If you ever visit Myrtle Beach, then booking a ticket to Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament is highly recommended. It’s a dinner and show you will not want to miss! We were kindly given the King’s Royalty Package where we had front row seats to watch all of the action along with amazing souvenirs to take home!
Medieval Times at Myrtle Beach Castle is an experience that will transport you to medieval Spain. You will feel like a guest of honor in King Don Carlos’ court no matter where you are seated.
A delicious four course dinner is provided for everyone during the show. Feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, the pastry of the Castle, coffee and two rounds of select beverages.
There are six knights: Black & White Knight, Green Knight, Yellow Knight, Red Knight, Red & Yellow Knight and the Blue Knight. You will be assigned one of the six knights to cheer on for the night (ours was the Red & Yellow) he was cool. If your knight loses his spot in the competition, you can cheer for his allies.
The knights demonstrate their battle skills using real brawn and steel weaponry during competitive games, jousting and a battle to become the champion of the night.
There is also falconry – an age old medieval method of hunting with the use of a falcon. We were really impressed by the beautiful horsemanship too.
Our knight did not win, but we had a wonderful time anyway and would love to see the show again!
Sky Wheel
The Sky Wheel is the first thing you will notice as you approach Myrtle Beach’s Boardwalk and Promenade – your really can’t miss it! We picked up our tickets and hopped on one of its gondolas.
As we rode to the top, we were greeted with a 360 degree view of Myrtle Beach’s Boardwalk and the Atlantic Ocean. We were told that it would be a 10 minute ride but it honestly felt like 20 minutes (we weren’t complaining!)
The Sky Wheel takes you 200 feet above sea level. The gondolas are climate controlled and fully enclosed which I really loved! A ride on the Sky Wheel at night is another option as it will provide a bright and colorful light show!
Ripley’s Belive It Or Not
We saw the amazing and bizarre at Ripley’s Myrtle Beach! There are five Ripley’s attractions in Myrtle Beach: Ripley’s Aquarium, Ripley’s Mirror Maze, Ripley’s Haunted House Adventure, Ripley’s Odditorium and Ripley’s Moving Theatre 5D.
Our first stop on our Ripley’s tour was the aquarium. Our son really loved the underwater tunnel with all of the cool sharks, turtles and fish!
There were stations where you could touch sting rays, sharks and even jelly fish. They felt pretty slimy!
Ripley’s Moving Theater 5D offers two films – Monkey Madness and the Ultimate Rollercoaster. We had to sit on the non-moving seats since we had the little one with us (you must be 43” to ride in moving seats) but he seemed to like the films anyway!
He was really fascinated by the huge dinosaur outside of the building.
We had to skip Ripley’s Haunted Adventure because we were told it was not suitable for little children (too scary) so we checked out the Mirror Maze.
It’s a tricky labyrinth of mirrors, I’m surprised we figured our way out! There are many paths and turns but only one way out. Tip: If you get lost, just follow the voices of people at the ticket booth outside.
Boardwalk and Promenade
The Boardwalk and Promendade is a nice stretch on the beach. There are many places you can grab a meal, arcades, shops and the view of the ocean of course! It’s also a perfect spot for a leisurely walk and photo ops.
Alligator Adventure
If you are fascinated or curious about reptiles, then visit Alligator Adventure located near Myrtle Beach’s Barefoot Landing.
This isn’t your average zoo, it is a reptile capital that’s home to a 2,000 pound, 18 foot long crocodile named Utan. Utan is a hybrid breed of a Siamese and saltwater crocodile, making him the ultimate croc!
There are live shows, including the opportunity of watching an alligator feeding in action. Alligator Adventure not only houses hundreds of crocodiles and alligators but have beautiful birds, snakes, turtles, kangaroos and much more! Alligator Adventure is also kid approved!
