Relax, Take It Easy and Be Stress-Free

One of the biggest problems today is something that plagues every modern man and woman, regardless of their age. Stress, the big scary bogeyman of the world, the one thing we can’t seem to get rid of. It causes us to be tired and become sick more easily, and yet a lot of people don’t take proper steps to get rid of it, letting it influence their relationships, their career and their family life. Well, the time has come for you to step back and put yourself first for once. After all, you can’t help anyone if you’re constantly on the verge of breaking apart. Here are a few tips to try that will soothe you and leave you stress free.

Sweat it out

Head out to the gym, or exercise at home if you prefer, but one of the most effective ways to get rid of stress is exercising. Whether you prefer heavy cardio that will help your anger and frustration melt away, or some slow yoga that will help you focus as you breathe deeply, the choice is yours.

Try adult colouring books

The latest idea for stress relief comes in form of art that was once considered to be exclusive to children. But colouring books are no longer something you can enjoy only if you’re seven and are learning how to colour within the lines. Now there’s a wide range of themed books that are available and full of stunningly beautiful drawings. Just pick a theme that you like: nature, your favourite TV show characters, enchanted castles, cats, or even hipster imagery – grab a pack of crayons or coloured pencils, play some music and let the stress wash away. Colouring can help you process things and soothe you when you’re upset, and it also gives you something to do with your hands, which is great if you are anxious.

Make a spa day at home

Sometimes our nerves are fried and we need a rest before we can even attempt to do anything else. In situations when we are extremely nervous, or just had a very hard day, the best thing to do is give yourself a spa treatment in the comfort of your own home. Prepare your bathtub – get some Epsom salts, or bath bombs, find quality Ecoya Stockists, some scented candles and pampering hand creams that will make your skin soft. Play relaxing music and just sink into the warmth of your bath until your muscles relax and your worries disappear. After this, get into a clean, soft set of PJs and get some rest. Whether you actually go to sleep, or take time to catch up on a book is your choice. Just do something for yourself – the rest of the world can wait.

Fun DIY crafts

Sometimes the best thing you can do is take something negative, like stress, and turn it into something positive. Take all your anger and frustration and put it in a project. Breathe, focus and lose yourself in work. Knitting can be very relaxing because of the repeated patterns, but you can also try making yourself a pair of earrings, or perhaps turn old newspapers into a rose bouquet. There are hundreds of things you can do, so pick one suited for your level of skill. Using your hands can be immensely helpful in dealing with stress, especially if you have something beautiful as the end product.

Fake it till you make it

We don’t always have the time to be on our own and recharge. When we’re surrounded by people, or are stuck at work with a growing headache, then there’s a trick that can be used – just smile. Even if you don’t feel like it, even if you really want to just sit down and cry, give a big grin. Smile in the face of your misfortune, bare your teeth, laugh if you can. Even if your heart is breaking, even if you are tired and think you can’t possibly go on for another second, take a deep breath and smile. And with every exhale, repeat to yourself “I have not fallen yet, and yet, and yet.” It will become easier soon. You are stronger than you think, so give yourself some credit and don’t let the world bring you down.

This world is far too fast-paced for the stress to be avoided entirely. The point isn’t to never experience any stress at all, but to find ways to help you deal with it in a healthy manner. The best way to do that is to develop a routine. Take up a new hobby, or get back to an old one. Go for a run, knit, write love letters, whatever works for you. The trick is to be consistent and to allow yourself enough time during the week where you can really rest and recharge.

    I probably have 10 coloring books at home and they really give you this mini-meditation time to de-stress. Love the post!
