How to travel and keep working self-employed

This is a sponsored post by Blue Anchor Search.

For people with the travel bug, holding down a full-time job and staying in one city can seem pretty boring. What could be worse than nine-to-five when all you can dream of is moving from one adventure to the next?

If you’re brave enough to quit your full-time position, there are some good ways to make money on the road. Saving before you go, so that you can keep yourself going for a few months, is definitely the right move. However, you don’t have to have a year’s worth of savings under your belt to book flights to your first destination.

Here are four ways to make cash as you travel, so that you don’t end up sleeping on the beach (if you don’t want to)!

Try Blogging

Writing your way around the world sounds romantic, but it can actually be a good money-making scheme as well. The good news is you don’t have to be Ernest Hemingway to make it.

Keen copywriters might want to set up travel blogs from scratch. Do this well before you go, so that you can establish a following, a unique selling point and your SEO strategy. Treat your blog like a brand. That way, travel and tourist companies will be more likely to pay you for partnering on campaigns.

Another option is to sign up for freelance writing websites. They will pay you for supplying articles on a whole variety of topics. All the new experiences you’ll be having will provide great fodder for your blogs. Whether you’re a foodie or an adrenaline junkie, write about your interests.

Start CFD Trading

Most of you probably won’t have considered trading online as a way to fund your trip. Contract for difference (CFD) trading, in particular, is a mode that can be useful. If you set up an account with a trading platform, you can speculate on the price movements of thousands of asset classes. CFD trading is a form of financial derivatives trading and let you take a position on thousands of global markets. These include currencies, commodities, indices and shares.

Currency pairs are one example of the kind of asset classes you can trade on. There are potential profits to be made, although it’s important to remember that the markets can rise and fall rapidly. CFD trading is a lot more flexible than conventional trading, in that you can speculate on and net a potential profit from rising as well as falling market prices. If you decide to try it out, do remember to do your research first and put a risk management strategy in place.

Reading up about how CFD trading works before getting started is the best approach.

Train to Be A Dance or Yoga Instructor

If you are constantly working out at Zumba classes or meditating at yoga, why not train to be an instructor? Picking up short-term contracts at hotels or studios could keep you happy in one spot for a few months, while you explore the places you’re curious about. Giving private one-to-one tuition is another idea. Get to know the locals or fellow travellers, who will enrich your travel while you are doing what you love.

Become A Tour Guide

Getting paid to meander through Europe or Asia doesn’t sound so bad, right? Research the history and culture of the destinations you’re excited about and you might be able to land a job as a tour guide or tour director. Sure, you will spend some of the time teaching a group about world-famous sights. The advantage is that you will also be experiencing these places for yourself.

Many companies hire seasonal staff and you can train at reputable institutes and colleges to get certified. There will be an outlay of cash in the beginning, but you will earn it back as you travel.
