Our Visit to the Montreal Holocaust Museum

“Not to transmit an experience is to betray it.” – Elie Wiesel

With today being Holocaust Remembrance Day, it takes me back to our visit to the Montreal Holocaust Museum. It’s a small but very emotionally powerful museum about the Holocaust and its victims.

About the Museum

If taking public transportation, the Montreal Holocaust Museum can easily be reached by Bus 129 or you can take the orange line to metro station Côte-Sainte-Catherine.

Admission fees are now $8 for adults and $5 for children under 18 as well as Seniors (65+). There are special cases when admission is free which you can find information about that here.

There is a permanent exhibition, temporary, traveling and virtual exhibitions throughout the museum so expect to spend at least 2 hours on your visit.

The museum is also bilingual in English and French.

Our Experience

There are informative videos, stories, photos, and letters that greatly educate the public about this horrible event in history. It was a touching museum experience that even made my husband, Meshach cry. Being parents ourselves, it really hit a nerve for us hearing stories about families being separated from their children.

Before the Holocaust, they lived normal lives as we do. No one ever thought something like the Holocaust would happen – then it did. After all the abuse and struggles the survivors went through, all the lives taken during the Holocaust should never be forgotten.

After our experience at the museum, what amazes me the most is the drive and strength of the victims during that time. We learned that although they were forced to live in the Jewish Ghettos, and amidst all the persecution they continued to live life as best and optimistic as they could.

Do Not Allow Another Holocaust

No one should allow something of that scale to happen ever again. No matter what religious or cultural background, we are all people sharing the same planet who all have the right to live full lives without fear of persecution. It’s not right and we need to be better people.

What we love most about traveling is that it allows us to learn so much about the world. What place have you visited that made a strong impact on you? Comment below and share this post!
